This is the section where you can leave us some feedback at Akebar Park. We welcome everyones opionion, and look forward to hearing your thoughts. Ideas for posts could be, improvements, quality of the campsite, local attractions....anything!!!
After high expectations of a great weekend we were thoroughly dissapointed.
The park itself is lovely, however, after ringing on several occasions, even within 1 hour of our arrival, to make sure there was sufficiant room for us when we arrived this was not the case. On arrival we were told we would have to squeeze in wherever we could due to a "taekwondo Rally". So after "squeezing in" we settled down to have a relaxing weekend.
This relaxation was short lived as music / shouting continued until the early hours of the morning, at least 4am!!!!! thanks to the Taekwondo revellers.
This again was the same story on the Saturday night until at least 3am this time so i suppose that extra hour of peace was welcome.
The whole weekend was ruined because of this rally. The toilets / shower areas were filthy within 30 minutes of park staff cleaning them. This was due to the amount of drunk, rude, rowdy adults and children! once again courtesy of our now unwelcome Taekwondo
Overall a shame that a lovely park was spoiled because of this and has now put us off using this site again!!!
Akebar fails to match the noticeably higher standards found on sites charging the same or even much less. Charging extra to take a shower in what looks like a run-down cowshed is contemptible. If not for a few well-intentioned but severely put-upon employees, I would have demanded a refund and moved on. The quality of toilets, showers and communal facilities is appalling and there aren’t nearly enough for a site with this capacity; they all seriously need upgrading.
There are no dedicated motorhome facilities. I had to make an appointment for a drain cover to be lifted to drain grey water. Freshwater taps are located on the roadside so that motorhomes needing to top up obstruct other folk. Chemical disposal points are referred to as ‘Elsan Points’, revealing how stuck in the past this site is. When asked if you want ‘hard standing’, this actually means picking your own spot on what is simply a rough car park by a duck pond. There are in fact no hard standing pitches, nor any ‘super’ pitches. There are loose, uneven deck timbers on the bridge into the camping park. Shared by pedestrians and vehicles, it is a disaster-in-waiting.
The owner of this site should be ashamed. His core business is static caravans, but is more than happy to pile in tents and tourers. In my opinion he pulls in punters by relying on the extremely favourable Dales location, the linked pub (whose bar is far too small), golfing facilities, and unrepresentative photography on the website. A link to TripAdvisor was pulled from Akebar’s website when the criticism got too much. I can’t see discerning visitors being fooled twice. I certainly won’t.
Stayed here weekend of 31st July/ 1st Aug.
